Welcome to Campaign 2008

SPECIAL NOTICE: DUE TO AN UNPRECEDENTED DEMAND, WE ARE COMPLETELY FULL FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION PROGRAM.  ONLY STUDENTS WHO HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY NOMINATED AND FOR WHOM SPACES WERE PREVIOUSLY RESERVED BY THEIR COLLEGE CAN BE ACCEPTED.  WE MAY WAITLIST APPLICANTS BUT ACCEPTANCE CAN NO LONGER BE GUARANTEED.

Thousands of college students from across the United States have witnessed the behind-the-scenes operations of national elections since 1984 by participating in the presidential academic seminar series offered by The Washington Center. For national politics in the United States, 2008 is a seminal year and the Campaign 2008 Presidential Academic Seminar Series offers college students and faculty a front row seat!

The Democrats and Republicans have chosen their respective candidates to be the 44th President of the United States, and all U.S. House representatives and one-third of U.S. senators will run for re-election. Without a doubt, the new landscape of political leadership will shift the course of the nation. History will be made, no matter whether the Republicans retain control of the White House or the Democrats come into power. Americans have many concerns, including the state of the economy, the Iraq war, health care costs, homeland security and foreign trade and competition.  The mood of the voters in November 2008 will determine the future of these and other critical issues.

The Washington Center will be offering the Presidential Inauguration Seminar from January 10 - 20, 2009 to study the momentous change that will occur in American political history, commemorated by the inauguration of the new President and vice president on January 20.  The seminar will analyze the election of 2008 and how the media affected the process as well as look at the transition to a new presidential administration.  Included in the program will be a special performance for The Washington Center by political humorist Mark Russell. Apply now to be a part of history!
