Students represent Drury at national convention
By Daniel Kieffer
Drury students Katie Daily and Chelsea Hacker have similar passions.
Both submitted essays to The Washington Center to apply for an internship. From that, both of these students were nominated by Drury Interim President Todd Parnell to attend one of the national political convention programs representing Drury University.
Both have opted to attend the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo., where they have reserved seats waiting for them.
The Washington Center for Internships and Academic Seminars is a nonprofit organization the helps numerous colleges and universities in the United States to provide many internships and other educational opportunities for students. The students who earn these internships are provided challenging jobs to work and learn in Washington, D.C., for academic credit.
Daily, a political science and public relations double major, says, “I am very honored to represent Drury University at the convention, and work under the guidance of the prestigious Washington Center Program. This is my first opportunity to look at the electoral process from the inside. It is really a dream come true.”
Hacker and Daily will be leaving for Denver in August and will be gone for 12 days to experience the inner workings of our government.
Daily poignantly says, “Making a change in the world takes more than passion, it really takes action.”
