Two Students Attend National Conventions

This election year, two Washington University students will have a rare chance to get up close and personal with presidential politics.  The Gephardt Institute, in partnership with Student Union and Congress of the South 40, will send one student each to the Democratic and Republican National Conventions, through an educational program operated by the Washington Center.

The program will prepare the students for their experience with a week of forums, speakers, and fieldwork.  Then they will then serve as volunteers at the conventions, interacting with delegates, political party officials, and the media.

The application process for the National Conventions Program was selective and competitive.  A committee of faculty, staff, and students reviewed applicants resumes and essays.  Finalists were chosen for their passion for the democratic process and thoughtfulness on how they would share their experience with the campus community upon return in the fall.
